Nexium is also used to treat certain types of stomach and duodenal ulcers. Esomeprazole can also be used to treat the symptoms of ulcers caused by smoking and drinking. This product is not recommended for use in children. Nexium is usually taken 1-3 hours before or after a meal. The recommended adult dose for adults is 40 mg once daily, while the recommended pediatric dose is 20 mg once daily. Esomeprazole should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water and is usually taken once or twice daily with or without food.
